The following communication was shared with families today:
Good afternoon, Warwick families,
I'm reaching out tonight to give you a heads-up about tomorrow's potential weather, so you're not caught off guard in the morning.
Tomorrow's forecast is calling for snow and/or mixed precipitation during the early morning commute. We're keeping a close eye on conditions and will make a decision about implementing a 2-hour delay by 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. No decision has been made at this time.
Here's what you need to know if we have a 2-hour delay and an early dismissal
School starts 2 hours later than normal
Buses run 2 hours later than normal
12:00 p.m. dismissal for secondary students
12:45 p.m. dismissal for elementary students
There is no Pre-K
Lunch will be served
The day still counts as an instructional day for students and staff
Why not use a Flexible Instructional Day (FID) or snow day?
Since this will count as a full instructional day even with the early dismissal, we want to preserve our snow days for weather events that prevent us from opening at all.
We considered using a Flexible Instructional Day, but we've heard from our elementary families that they want us to limit screen time at home throughout the year. Sending devices home for the entire winter break doesn't align with that request.
There's also a practical consideration: on a traditional FID, teachers post assignments by 10:00 a.m., which means we are essentially following a 2-hour delay schedule. When you look at the actual instructional time, students would receive roughly the same amount of time whether they're in the building with a 2-hour delay or learning remotely, and by having students in the building, we can ensure they receive lunch as well.
I'm sending this now so you have time tonight to arrange backup plans for childcare or transportation if needed. If a 2-hour delay is needed, you'll be notified by 6:00 a.m. through all our usual communication channels.
Enjoy your evening!
