2022 GAPP Exchange Trip

From June 21st through July 12th, eleven Warwick Juniors and Seniors traveled to Europe with three staff chaperones for the German American Partnership Program (GAPP).

Among the students were seniors Juliana Bogda, Sarah Martin, Kailey McBride, Mei Mei McGrath, Catherine Olson, Robert Speer, Christopher Stauffer, and juniors Johnny Kellogg, Hayden Milchanowski, Summit Smoker, and Liliana Zimmerman.

Wendy Andrews (World Languages Teacher), Renée Campeau (World Languages Teacher), and Jeff Martin (Social Studies Teacher) chaperoned the trip.

The German American Partnership Program (GAPP) allows Warwick High School to partner with König-Karlmann Gymnasium, a school in Altötting (Bavaria), Germany. This academic exchange partnership between our two schools has been in existence since 1989 and has allowed for a number of our students to experience studying abroad.

During the exchange, students lived with a German host family, attended school with their host brothers/sisters at König-Karlmann, experienced daily life in Altötting, met with Altötting's mayor, and participated in excursions to Berchtesgaden, Salzburg, Burghausen, and Berlin.

We are thrilled to continue this partnership as the exchange helps build bridges between individuals, families, school communities, and nations. While on this trip, our students functioned as ambassadors for not only our school, but also our community and the United states as a whole.

While away, students are immersed in language, culture, and global perspectives that they may not be as engaged in here. Additionally, students leave Germany having made long-lasting connections with the students and families they met during the trip.

For the second part of the program, our German counterparts will be coming to visit Lititz and the Warwick School District in April 2023 where they’ll stay with our students and host families.

“Our students were excellent ambassadors of Warwick, Lititz, and the United States. Whether they were hiking in the Alps, sitting in a physics class at our partner school, or standing at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, they were marked by their eagerness to learn, grow, and experience all that they could during the exchange. Our Warwick community should be proud of them.” - Wendy Andrews.

We can’t wait to welcome our German friends this spring!
