Dear Parents and Guardians,
Hello! My name is Mr. Felty, and I am looking forward to being your child’s fifth grade teacher this year. I am hoping you and your son/daughter are relaxing and enjoying the summer. While you prepare for the upcoming school year with your child, I want to be of assistance by sharing with you my expectations for students in fifth grade.
A part of my teaching philosophy has always been the belief that the process of learning is more meaningful to children if they can relate to new knowledge and have an interest in doing so. It is my intent to teach your child the required skills for fifth grade by incorporating the use of technology, hands-on activities, manipulatives, projects, visual aides, speakers, discovery learning, assessments, and other effective educational tools/strategies. I have high expectations for your child to succeed, and it is crucial that he/she is prepared to effectively produce in order to complete homework and other assignments on a consistent basis.
In addition, the interest parents and guardians outwardly show in their child’s education is vital to the effectiveness of learning. I plan to provide you with samples of student work on a weekly basis, and encourage you to preview these items with your son or daughter. If you ever have any suggestions or concerns regarding your child’s schooling, I will be available at school for conferences and telephone calls most afternoons from 2:45 until 3:15.
