Grading for Health class

Grading for Health class

Dear parent/guardian,
To fulfill Warwick School District’s Grading and Assessment Guidelines, the WMS Health and Phys. Ed. Department has developed the following to integrate summative assessments to align with the health curriculum.

“Summative Assessments are graded and consist of unit-ending assessments & intra-unit assessments.  Unit-ending assessments percentages should be higher than intra-unit assessments.”

My grade book will be set up to do the following:

Intra-Unit grades will be weighted to reflect 49% of the total grade.  This will include classwork and homework assignments.

Unit-ending assessments will be weighed to reflect 51% of the total grade. This can include written tests/quizzes and projects.

To calculate your child’s grade throughout the marking period, you will need to take the points earned on classwork assignments (called intra-unit) and divide by the total possible points. This gives you a percentage that you will multiply by .49 .

Next, do the same for the Unit-Ending Assessments, but this time multiply your category percentage by .51.

Lastly, add the two percentages together to get your child’s overall grade.

The following is an example of how to calculate:
