Homework Help and Hints

More information about the second grade homework schedule
will be coming soon!

Students should bring their homework home in their "H.E.R.O." (Having Everything Ready and Organized) folder.  When they are done with their homework, please place the homework back in their folder in their backpack right away so it doesn't get lost.  Students will bring home their Homework Log and Planner page each Monday for him or her to track their reading and math fact practice (see below).  Please sign and return the Homework Log and Planner page the following Monday.  The "H.E.R.O." folder will also contain any flyers or important notes that are distributed that day.  Additionally, students may bring home a large manilla "SUPER" envelope containing super important papers that must be seen or completed by parents/guardians and returned the next day.

Our typical weekly homework schedule will be as follows:

Monday--Initial Spelling Sort Cut and Study (See "Spelling Sort Suggestions" page; Test on Friday)*
Tuesday--Spelling*
Wednesday--Spelling*
Thursday--Spelling*

Friday--Have a great weekend!

*In addition to the typically assigned homework, students should be working on practicing math facts at least 3 times per week.  Experts, as well as our district handbook, indicate that your child should also be reading at least 15 minutes per day for pleasure.  This can include a combination of you reading to your child, your child reading to you, and you and your child partner reading together.  Feel free to incorporate a variety of age-appropriate reading materials, such as newspaper articles, magazines, fiction and nonfiction books, and even comic books!  Again, please be sure that all materials are age- and skill-level appropriate!  Your child can track their math fact practice and reading on their Homework Log and Planner as described in the previous paragraph.

Thank you so much for supporting your child to complete their homework each evening!
