
Music Theory is the study of the theoretical elements of music including sound and pitch, rhythm, melody, harmony, and notation. In this course students will study compositional techniques used in all forms of music and put these techniques to practice by composing several short pieces of music.

Unit #3 - Accidentals, enharmonics, whole steps, and half steps
Unit #4 - Major scales, tetra chords, and key signatures
Unit #5 - Intervals and how to derive them
Unit #6 - Triads, Roman numerals, and the V7 chord
Unit #7 - Triad inversion, figured bass, major chord progressions
Unit #8 - Minor scales and minor chord progressions
Unit #9 - Harmonizing a melody, broken chords and arpeggios
Unit #10 - Basic functions of harmony and composition
