Warwick School District

Music Technology (sem)

Course Description

The class will focus on music notation software such as Finale and also look at basic recording, mixing, and mastering functions available in Garageband.  Along with concentrating on the software, the class will also spend time looking at hardware used in recording such as microphones and various audio setups. The application of this study will take place with a unit on sound effects in feature films and Foley art, which is the recording of basic "ambient" sounds in films such as clothes shuffling, footsteps, and any basic sound an actor may generate on screen that is lost in production recordings from filming.  Students will also be given a basic understanding of sound waves and how they react in different environments as well as audio setups for theaters and home sound systems.  The best tool every student will have in class is their own two ears and their ability to listen critically for different sounds in recordings.
