Beginning of Year Parent Letter

June 2, 2023

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Hello! My name is Mr. Packer, and I am very excited to be your child’s fifth grade teacher this year. While you and your child prepare for the upcoming school year, I want to assist you by sharing with you what I expect from students in fifth grade.

A part of my teaching philosophy is the belief that the process of learning is more meaningful to children if they can relate to new knowledge and have an interest in doing so. It is my intent to teach your child the required skills for fifth grade by incorporating the use of hands-on activities, projects, visual aides, discovery learning, tests, and other methods into all subject areas as much as possible. I have high expectations for your child to succeed, and it is crucial that s/he is prepared to manage her/his time to responsibly complete homework and other assignments on a frequent basis. If a good work ethic is established from the beginning, s/he will have a fun year of learning about herself/himself and what I teach her/him.

In addition, the interest parents and guardians outwardly show in their child’s education is vital to the effectiveness of learning. I plan to provide you with samples of your child’s work on a weekly basis, and I encourage you to review these items with her/him. If you ever have any suggestions or concerns with regard to your child’s schooling, I will be available most afternoons from 2:40 until 3:20. The school phone number is 626-3704. Your support is welcomed and greatly appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to read this brief letter of introduction, and I hope you enjoy your summer. I look forward to having a fantastic year working with you and your child.

Sincerely,

Ryan M. Packer
