Why take Accounting?

Four of the top ten most profitable college majors are business related:

  • Accounting
  • Economics/Finance
  • Business Administration
  • Marketing

226,000 new jobs are expected over the next decade in Accounting because of:

  • Increasing number of new businesses
  • Change in financial laws
  • Corporate governance regulations
  • Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002

Business majors are required to take at least one, usually two, college accounting courses, and studies show that students who take high school accounting are more successful in college accounting.

But, you ask, what if I am not going to be a business major?

  • Many colleges and universities are requiring non-business majors to take a course in managerial accounting, for example: Interior Design, Architecture, and Engineering.
  • You will need to know accounting if you want to own your own business – all businesses need to keep accounting records, entrepreneurs must understand the business/profit motive.
  • Understanding accounting concepts help Entrepreneurs problem solve and make sound business decisions.
  • You will learn skills that employers need all employees to possess – problem solving, critical thinking, organization, accuracy, integrity, business ethics, and technology.
  • And, you will learn personal applications in Accounting, such as:   budgeting, investing, taxes, and banking.
  • You will earn a math credit with this course.
  • But most of all, this class will provide you with a job skill right out of high school.

In this class we will study:
