Bonfield Student Showcases Creativity Through Local Design Contest

In 2019, Bonfield Elementary student Payton Zimmerman was named winner of the Music for Everyone’s Keys for the City Piano Design contest.

Part of winning this contest meant that Payton’s design would be reproduced on a piano which would then be placed at a location in Lancaster city.  Due to the pandemic, the painting portion was pushed back. This summer, Payton along with a few Bonfield students finally got the opportunity to put her design on the piano. It took about four days for the students to complete from start to finish.  Chroma paint in Lititz graciously donated the supplies for this project.

Well done to the following students who assisted in the painting:

Riley Arnold
Natalie Brommer
Allie Chmil
Olivia Flemming
Sydney Lee
Sophia Spurrier
Cody Weaver

Since the student winner resides in Lititz, the chosen location for this piano will be at Pebbles & Lace Lititz so be sure to stop by and take a look.

Music for Everyone selected Payton’s original design because it embraced the core values of being creative and was an inspiration to all who want to make an impact in the community through music.  Beginning on June 30th, Keys for the City will feature ten custom-designed pianos that will be displayed at various hot spots throughout Lancaster at sidewalk locations, accessible to the public 24/7.

The funds raised through Keys for the City go directly to the instrument grant program in which MFE provides instruments and musical education supplies to schools in Lancaster County. Since 2006, MFE has invested nearly two million dollars in all 16 school districts.
