Warwick School District to Offer Free Meals Through December, 2020

We are happy to inform you that the USDA announced it is extending free meals for all students through December 31, 2020.

Meals will be offered to students at local schools at no charge, for the foreseeable future, thanks to extended waivers from the United States Department of Agriculture.

The Warwick Food Service Department is pleased to announce that we will be participating in this free meal extension program that was offered by the USDA.

Starting September 14th, 2020, all Warwick students enrolled in face-to-face and Warwick Virtual Academy will be eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch through December 31st, 2020.

"Providing nutrition for all students continues to be one of our primary goals at Warwick.  As the pandemic continues to cause challenges and hardships for many in our community, we are thankful this support is being provided to all of our families," stated Dr. Melanie Calender, Assistant Superintendent for the Warwick School District.

Questions and Answers Regarding the Free Meal Extension:

Are all meals free as they were in the Spring? Yes, all meals are free. Food Services will use the electronic POS at each school to track meals for accounting purposes, but students will not be charged for a meal.

Does the extension of free meals also cover snacks and extras?  No, the extension of free meals only provides one breakfast and one lunch, per student, at no charge. If a student wishes to purchase extras or snacks i.e., ice cream, they would have to have funds in his/her account to do so.

How do I put money in my child’s account for snacks/extras?  Deposits can still be made on meal accounts by sending a check with the student’s name and student ID with the student to school, or mailed to: 301 West Orange St. Lititz ATTN: Food Service Department. You also have the option to put money in your child’s account using the EZSchool Pay application.

Normally, I have to complete a meal benefits application for my child to receive free / reduced meals. I have not completed the application as of yet, do I still need to complete an application for the 2020-2021 SY?  Yes, you still need to complete a meal benefits application because the extension only runs through December 31st. If your child qualified for free or reduced meal benefits during the 2019-2020 school year, those benefits will carry over into the 2020-2021 school year for 30 business days. The previous year benefits will expire on October 15, 2020.

We will continue to expand our offerings in an effort to provide a variety of healthy choices for your student each day. Please encourage your student to participate in our school breakfast and lunch program.
