WHS Civics Day

WHS Civics Day

Warwick High School Civics and Governments classes had the opportunity to participate in several “Civics Day” presentations on Thursday, May 11, 2017. The event, held throughout the day in the Large Group Instruction Room (LGI) brought many local elected officials to the school to discuss their pathways to elected office, their roles, and responsibilities. The interactive discussions and panels gave students time to ask questions of the officials.

According to Mr. Castellitto, “We want students to take their knowledge out of this building and apply it to the real world. That’s why we have speakers coming in today. We want the students to understand that this is applying Civics and Government to the real world.”

This is the fourth year for the event, which is organized by WHS Social Studies teacher Mr. Paul Castellitto and sponsored by the WHS Civics Club. Presenters included: State Senators Ryan Aument and Scott Martin; State Representatives Steven Mentor and Mindy Fee; Lititz Borough Council President, Karen Weibel; Lititz Mayor, Tim Snyder; Nikki Rivera Lititz Borough Chief of Police Kerry Nye; and Warwick School Board Panel  comprised of Todd Rucci, Nelson Peters, Connor Wentworth (student representative), Officer Peter Savage, SRO, and Warwick Superintendent Dr. April Hershey; County Commissioners Stuckey and Lehman; Amber Czerniakowski, DA’s Office; and Congressman Lloyd Smucker.
