Elementary One School, One Book

Everyone will be talking about the “Lemonade War”

All elementary schools in Warwick School District kicked off their school wide book club experience called “One School, One Book” with the unveiling of the book, “The Lemonade War” by Jacqueline Davies, on Friday, January 6, 2017.

Sponsored by a Warwick Education Foundation (WEF) grant, each family received their own copy of the book and has been asked to read it together at home from
January 9-February 7, 2017. Students received a reading calendar to mark their progress. It is hoped that all students, parents, teachers, and staff read a few pages every night as a family.

“One School, One Book” is a unique program that links students at all grade levels with the same book. “The Lemonade Wars” was chosen because it is relatable to students at all levels. While some of the themes and vocabulary of the book are challenging to some of the youngest students, families are encouraged to engage in discussion about vocabulary and the book’s topics.

Reading aloud at home is a excellent way to help children develop into effective, independent readers. The goal of the program is to build a community of readers while supporting family connections.
