WMS Construction Revs
03-31-2009
Welcome to the Fourth Edition of the Warwick Middle School Construction Update.
Like a stationary race car whose driver is pressing down on its gas pedal, great amounts of manpower, materials and equipment are all focused on progressing the Warwick Middle School Project (hereinafter referred to as “MSP”) in anticipation of the onset of consistent warmer and dryer weather. Construction crews, led by the mason, are ‘champing on the bit’ to erect the balance of the shell of the MSP. The mason is the key, because although there are steel beams and trusses throughout, the MSP is categorized as a “masonry bearing” structure, meaning much of the walls and slabs are supported by/are bearing on ¬masonry walls below. As walls are constructed all else follows in a jigsaw puzzle fashion.

Most Rock Removed, WMS Starts to Roll
12-12-2008
Welcome to the Third Edition of the Warwick Middle School Construction Update.
Until a few weeks ago, the Warwick Middle School Project (or “MSP”) had been dominated by site work .. featuring the installation of the new Limerock Road extension into the campus, installation of new underground storm piping and related basins, regrading of much of the fields and creation of a brand new JV baseball field as well as shot put and discus areas.
As for the building, out of respect for the local water supply, blasting has been prohibited so, for the past five months rock has been exposed, drilled, chipped and excavated for transport to “the rock pile” where it has been scooped up for deposit into a large rock crushing machine for processing and reuse on site. Thrilling to watch!
While the MSP has a relatively small lower level, digging out that basement has been like removing an underground block of rock. The good news is that the basement foundation is substantially out of the way and excavation on the rest of the building foundation has progressed smoothly and quickly.
Notably, foundation workforce has more than quadrupled in the past three weeks and is expected to further expand.
The construction of the new Middle School building now dominates the Project’s focus.

Off to a Rock-Solid Start!

Welcome to the Second Edition of the Warwick Middle School Construction Update.

For almost three months, rock has been excavated and processed from the fields to the West of the existing Middle School. In fact, there has been so much rock that a large crushing machine has been mobilized on site to process larger rocks into crushed stone for re-use in the project. Onlookers could easily confuse the construction site for a rock quarry. While the rock removal process would have sped up dramatically by utilizing explosives, blasting has not been permitted to prevent any potential disruption to the aquifer and water supply located deep below the site; accordingly, sounds of the excavators with jackhammer attachments and crushing machine continue.
The preparation of the areas requiring rock excavation, most notably the small, lower-level of what will one day be the new Middle School loading dock area, is nearing completion.
